One of the less looked at anatomical parts of the face is the ears, however, when they are protruding they become the most important physical characteristics of the face. Peoples eyes are drawn to them, which leads to children and adults having social issues at work or school. Self-consciousness and poor self esteem became the center of attention.

For this reason, ear repositioning (otoplasty), can be done safely once the ears have reached full size, which is typically at 5-7 years of age. There are two major reasons to do it at this early stage: (1) the cartilage is more pliable allowing a greater ease of shaping and (2) less recurrence rates.
